As I have gone verse by verse through Genesis, I am increasingly amazed at the grace of God. When studying the book of Genesis, you begin studying the lives of these great men of faith. Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are listed in Hebrews 11 as great men of faith and as men of great faith.
But as I study each one I find that they are flawed. They are badly flawed, inconsistent, and selfish. Many times they take things into their own hands rather than rely on the Lord.
Yet, God calls them all men of faith. This is a great encouragement to me. For you see, God uses the rebels, the inconsistent, the weak, and the sinner to accomplish His plan. Your call is to “walk in His ways,” and as you do your best to obey, trust, and live to please Jesus, He uses you. Sure, we will fail. Sure, we will sin. Sure, we will lack faith, but God can still use you for His kingdom.
It isn’t the great faith of these men of God that should excite you. Maybe the mercy & grace of a great God, who can use you, should be the most thrilling thing in your life!
