We Believe

The following represents a portion of the Statement of Faith for Faith at Newtown.             A copy of the complete Statement of Faith is available upon request.

1. The Bible

We believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments. The Bible is to be interpreted accordingly by a literal, historical, and grammatical manner. (Matthew 5:18-19; 2 Timothy 3:16;         2 Peter 1:19-21)

2. God

We believe in one Triune God eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent existing in three persons: The Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are one in nature, attributes, power, and glory. (Genesis 1:1-26; Exodus 20:2-3; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19-20; John 14:10, 26; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

3. Jesus Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He became man without ceasing to be God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and was and is today completely man and completely God. Man’s redemption is accomplished through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice for sin, and that our justification was made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead. He has ascended into heaven and now intercedes for believers, and is coming again for His church. (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Matthew 24:44; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-18; John 14:1-3; Acts 1:9-10; 2:18-36; Romans 3:24-25; 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, 20-25; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Galatians 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18; Titus 2:11-13; Hebrews 7:25; 9:24; 1 John 2:1-2)

4. The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the person the Godhead who in this present age convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. He is the supernatural agent who regenerates and baptizes all believers into the body of Christ. He indwells and seals them unto the day of redemption. (John 16:8-11; Romans 8:9; 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 1:22; 12:4-14, 28; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Galatians 5:16; Ephesians 1:13-18; 4:17-12; 1 John 2:20, 27)

5. Creation

We believe that God created the heavens and the earth, the physical universe including man and all lower forms of life each after its own species by a direct act. (Genesis 1 &2; Exodus 20:11; John 1:3; Colossians 1:16-17)

6. Mankind

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death which is separation from God. All human beings are born into sin since Adam and Eve, except for Jesus Christ, and are sinners by birth, nature, and by choice. (Genesis 1:26-27; 3:1-6; Psalm 51:5; 58:3; Romans 1:20; 3:10-19; 5:12-21; 1 Corinthians 2:14)

7. Salvation

We believe that salvation is a gift of God and all who exercise personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are born again by the Holy Spirit and are now justified by the blood of Christ and are at that moment secure in Him till their redemption. Salvation is by grace, through faith, for the forgiveness of sins. (John 1:12; 3:16-18; 6:37-40; Romans 8:1, 38-39; Galatians 5:13; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 2:11-12; 1 John 5:11-13)

8. The Ordinances

We believe that believer’s water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the scriptural ordinances for the church. (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:38-41; 8:35-38; 10:47-48; Romans 6:3-5; Acts 2:41-42; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32)

9. The Church

We believe the church today was started at Pentecost and is composed only of those who have put their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. These believers are the church, the bride of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:19-21; Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8; 2:41-42; 10:47-48; 14:27; 20:17, 28-32; Romans 16:1-4; Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 2:12; 3:1-13; Hebrews 10:24-25; 1 Peter 5:1-5)

10. Moral Issues

We believe that the principles found in the Bible should govern all aspects of our behavior. We believe we should do only those things which glorify God and edify both the body of Christ and the individual. (Romans 12:1-3;1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 10:31; Galatians 5:16-26; Philippians 1:27)

11. Final Events

We believe in the bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth. (Zechariah 14:4-11; John 14:1-3; Titus 2:13; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 3:10; 19:11-16; Matthew 25:46; Luke 16:19-26; John 5:28-29; 11:25-26; 1 Corinthians 3:11-15; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9; Revelation 20:5-6, 11-15)
